Active-set prediction for interior point methods using controlled perturbations

چکیده
We propose the use of controlled perturbations to address the challenging question of optimal active-set prediction for interior point methods. Namely, in the context of linear programming, we consider perturbing the inequality constraints/bounds so as to enlarge the feasible set. We show that if the perturbations are chosen appropriately, the solution of the original problem lies on or close to the central path of the perturbed problem. We also find that a primal-dual path-following algorithm applied to the perturbed problem is able to accurately predict the optimal active set of the original problem when the duality gap for the perturbed problem is not too small; furthermore, depending on problem conditioning, this prediction can happen sooner than predicting the activeset for the perturbed problem or for the original one if no perturbations are used. Encouraging preliminary numerical experience is reported when comparing activity prediction for the perturbed and unperturbed problem formulations.

On Interior-Point Warmstarts for Linear and Combinatorial Optimization
Despite the many advantages of interior-point algorithms over active-set methods for linear optimization, one of the remaining practical challenges is their current limitation to efficiently solve series of related problems by an effective warmstarting strategy. In its remedy, in this paper we present a new infeasible-interior-point approach to quickly re-optimize an initial problem instance af...
متن کاملA New Infeasible Interior-Point Algorithm with Full Nesterov-Todd Step for Semi-Definite Optimization
We present a new full Nesterov and Todd step infeasible interior-point algorithm for semi-definite optimization. The algorithm decreases the duality gap and the feasibility residuals at the same rate. In the algorithm, we construct strictly feasible iterates for a sequence of perturbations of the given problem and its dual problem. Every main iteration of the algorithm consists of a feasibili...
متن کاملSensitivity analysis in linear programming and semidefinite programming using interior-point methods
We analyze perturbations of the right-hand side and the cost parameters in linear programming (LP) and semidefinite programming (SDP). We obtain tight bounds on the norm of the perturbations that allow interior-point methods to recover feasible and near-optimal solutions in a single interior-point iteration. For the unique, nondegenerate solution case in LP, we show that the bounds obtained usi...

The classification and regression trees (CART) possess the advantage of being able to handlelarge data sets and yield readily interpretable models. In spite to these advantages, they are alsorecognized as highly unstable classifiers with respect to minor perturbations in the training data.In the other words methods present high variance. Fuzzy logic brings in an improvement in theseaspects due ...
متن کاملA full Nesterov-Todd step interior-point method for circular cone optimization
In this paper, we present a full Newton step feasible interior-pointmethod for circular cone optimization by using Euclidean Jordanalgebra. The search direction is based on the Nesterov-Todd scalingscheme, and only full-Newton step is used at each iteration.Furthermore, we derive the iteration bound that coincides with thecurrently best known iteration bound for small-update methods.
